Network of Natural History Museum of Cuba: first results

Abstract

The museums of natural history in the world unquestionably represent a cornerstone in the knowledge and conservation of the diversity of life in the natural environment, both living and extinct. Added to this original value is the fact that the creation of a culture of nature and other values ​​included in environmental education is incorporated from the so-called "new museology" into the purposes and missions of these institutions. The need to integrate, to discuss, analyze differences, exchange experiences and enhance strengths, was a reiterated demand in the symposiums of museums and rooms of natural history. In response to this demand, in 2017 the Network of Museums and Natural History Rooms of the Republic of Cuba was officially created, by resolution of the National Heritage Council. The fundamental objective is to consolidate the work of these entities in the country regarding the knowledge, control and preservation of the natural history heritage they treasure, in addition to undertaking actions in other profiles and missions of these museums, the National Museum of Natural History develops the methodological stewardship. Job exchanges, dissemination of the Network on social networks, publication of articles in the SAVIA magazine, review and identification of collections, are some of the first results shown in two years of work.
