The basin also has important agricultural and fish production potentials and areas of interest for conservation.

The location of the city of Camaguey in the high basin not only defines a contrast as for the socioeconomic development, polarized in this area, but also in connection with the environmental problems that are linked to the own urban development and the industrial concentration in the city in this part of the basin, which impact strongly on the fluvial system Tínima-Hatibonico, among other components. In the half and low basin these environmental problems are relate with the affectations of the soil, the deforestation and the loss of biodiversity. The diagnosis carried out by a multisicplinary and multisectorial team includes a proposal of actions whose materialization can contribute to the sustainable development of the region and it constitutes an important work tool for Basin Provincial Council and the Council of the basin of the river San Pedro.
