Abstract

The fact that the human population is increasingly growing in number opposing the existing food demand has led sciences to develop new techniques within the field of the plant and animal production. Among these spearhead techniques we can find those related to genetic transformations in animals and plants to obtain resistance to diseases and pest and reach a fast growth in animals.

Any new technology may result in damages that could affect the human health and the environment if handled in an unsafety and ecologically irrational manner. All the aspects related to food and feed products should be assessed from the moment the product is obtained to the toxicological assessment is carried out. Therefore, our work is aimed at pointing out the main aspects to assess the risks that the products derived from the novel biotechnology might cause to human health and the environment.
