Cleaner production and sustainable consumption in the energy management for the reduction of the environmental global impacts in the fruit sector

Abstract

The Cleaner Production (CP) is a strategy in the Enterprise Management System to guarantee the sustainable development of the citric fruits and the tropical fruits industrialization. The present work shows the results of the CP options implementation in the electric systems focused basically to the refrigeration and illuminations; steam generation systems; heat recovery; transportation and the renewable energy sources allowing a saving of 5 260 MWh / year; 232619 l / year of fuel oil; 60647 l / year of diesel with an economic effect of 1 188 112 CUC. Simultaneously, reached other savings due to the CP integrated solutions for diminishing the consumptions of the water and to elevate the industrial efficiency approximately in 174 446 CUC. From the environmental point of view the efficient use of the energy resources reduced the emissions in 5641 t of CO2; 24 t of NOx; 1.65 t of CO; 1,7 t of SOx to the atmosphere contributing to reduce the environmental global impacts. This strategy has allowed to elevate the cultural level for the participation of technicians and management personnel trough seminars, workshops and events as well as the exchange of experiences and know how between the industries and the reduction of risks. It is recommended to apply this strategy to other industrial prioritized sectors of the country for the benefits that it reports their implementation for the sustainable development of the society.
