Information management as a tool to evaluate the environmental action

Abstract

Union Electrica de Cuba (UNE) is engaged in the implementation of a Corporate Environmental Management System (EMS) based on the CN ISO 14001, which under the management of environmental information is an important tool.

The main objectives of the environmental information management are:

• Collection of information;
• Control and management of registration information;
• Use of information for evaluating the environmental performance of the entities (following the requirements of ISO 14031 pt 3.3) and for decision making;
• Provide information required by stakeholders.

This paper explains the system (mechanism) that used to acquire, store, process and access (communicate) the data resulting from this monitoring that are contained in an information system that allows control of the processes and the establishment of criteria uniform management and shared. Finally allowed to use these elements for evaluating the performance of the entities of the UNE and the organization as a whole.

Special interest is the computerized management information is given to the System GAUNE, designed using the tool "case" GeneXus 7.5. that uses a client-server model, where the client is programmed in Visual Basic 6.0 and is used as a server database manager SQL Server 2000, which allowed an increase in quantity, quality and availability of information maintained.
