Study of a case about the mitigation of climate change by forests. Mayabeque Comprehensive Forestry Enterprise, Havana Province: Second approximation
Main Article Content
Abstract
Forests constitute a basic component of carbon cycle of the planet; forests can limit by themselves the effects of the climate changes. This evaluation is aimed at studying the case of Mayabeque Comprehensive Forestry Enterprise in order to find out the expected degree of affectation as well as the potential of mitigation which represents Cuban forestry area in relation to climate change. The Enterprise is located in Havana Province and it recorded a total area of 74 428 hectares in 2002; out of them 6% is not covered by forests, and 28% are non-forest areas, the rest 66% is mostly covered by natural forests. Following these basic data and the composition of the forests a second approximation has been obtained.
