Abstract

It was carried out an experiment in the Credits and Services Cooperative (CSC) Jesús Suárez, La Palma municipality with the objective to compare a corn seeds traditional conservation method with the new one hermetic vessels, to that we used a survey to diagnose conservation system used by peasants on study area. Two maize’s varieties were conserved a (criolla) and another (oriental) to same humidity percentage. There were made four germination tests every six months during two year evaluating germination percentage, losses percentage, and incidence to weevil (Sitophilus zeamais) attack; to that were used totally random designs in laboratory tests such as tests field. There were made statistical methods as proportions comparison analysis between varieties and conservation methods. We found that conservation method in new one hermetic vessels is more effective to maize conservation seeds since it is more economic, more sustainable, easy obtaining and don't damage the environment neither the human health.
