Cleaner production: a necessary strategy

Abstract

The dividends of the introduction and application of the Cleaner Production approach in the national context are examined, as well as the major barriers for the adoption of these practices in the different economic sectors. The need of the establishment of a National Strategy, in order to strengthen our institutional capacity in this field is discussed, analyzing the contribution of the environmental management instruments in its implementation. It is concluded that Cleaner Production is better option than "end of pipe" control.
