River basin Altamira – Durán, Camagüey, Cuba: Environmental diagnostics and Integral Management Program

Abstract
Environmental diagnostics river basins contribute to the integrated management of natural and socioeconomic resources. From information on the current status of resources, environmental problems are identified and planned a program for the management, conservation of natural resources, environmental sustainability and improving quality of life population.The river basin Altamira - Duran is one of the five largest in Camagüey province, Cuba and it is considered a priority, due to the pollution of its waters, mainly by the Agroindustrial Complex Panama. The management program is directed at reducing the pollution load of organic origin, water resource management, improvement and soil conservation, increasing forest area, the sustainable use of biological diversity, cooperative surveillance, the fire fighting, environmental education and training, and improving hygienic and sanitary conditions.
