Perception and adaptation to climate change in livestock farms in the Jimaguayu municipality, Camagüey, Cuba. An experience of the Basal project

Abstract

The Jimaguayú municipality constitutes one of the fundamental nuclei of livestock development in the province of Camagüey and in the country. The incidence of climate change and variability has affected the deterioration of the livestock production systems in the territory. As a preliminary action to the implementation of a strategy to face these phenomena, a perception study was carried out to understand the level of sensitivity, information and understanding of the main actors linked to the municipality's milk production, regarding the impacts of climate change, the vulnerability presented by this sector, the actions carried out a priori and future expectations. A system of surveys was applied, aimed at producers, technicians and managers linked to livestock production. Shallow knowledge of the impacts of climate change on the sector and the measures to be implemented was evident.
