Participation of carbohydrates in the structure of Red Ferralitic soils with different uses
Main Article Content
Abstract
The present research evaluates the carbohydrate content in aggregates of different sizes in regenerated forests, pastures, sugar cane and intensive crops. Samples are taken from twelve representative sites of ferralitic soils and the contents of organic matter, total carbohydrates and water soluble carbohydrates are determined in three sizes of aggregates, using the colorimetric method of Phenol - Sulfuric Acid. The physical-structural analysis is performed and the weighted average diameter of aggregation is determined at each site. The variables evaluated are related through non-parametric correlations. The results show that in soils with a higher intensity of management, the total carbohydrate content is more closely linked to the organic matter content than in more conserved soils, and correlates with the weighted mean diameter. The amount of carbohydrates varies generally between 15.63 and 6.46 mg of glucose equivalent/g of soil, and does not show a trend in relation to management, although it is closely related to aggregates smaller than 2 mm. The values of water-soluble carbohydrates do not show significant differences between uses.
